Reading - Kahoot

Reading Blog post

We have been practising using the ‘Get it, Sort it, Use it’ inquiry method in our reading. You have all done a lot of reading about the commonwealth games as your get it.
Now it is time to sort it and use it. As part of your get it sort it you have used the before and after web and a KWL chart. To complete the sort it you need to think of 3 or 4 questions (and the answers) that are interesting to you.
Now it is use it time… you need to create a kahoot (https://getkahoot.com) using your questions and answers from the sort it.

Task: use the ‘get it, sort it, use it’ model of inquiry to find out about the commonwealth games and share what we have learned.

WALT: use our prior knowledge to help us understand what we read.  (Get it)
WALT: Summarise what we read to help us understand what we read.   (Get it and Sort it)

Reading questions

  • WALT: ask questions as we read to make sure we understand what we read.
Remember we can question before we read…
What is this going to be about? What do I already know that will help me understand? what do I want to find out?
We can question as we read…
what does that mean? what is going to happen next? what else do I want to know?
We can question after we read…
does that make sense? what have I learned? have I answered my earlier questions? what else do I want to know?

    • I learned to make a I wonder chart so I can ask questions
    • Most challenging was answering the questions
    • Next step is to do it neater and to think of more questions before I start reading.
You are practising asking question before you start reading to help 'tune in' to the text. This will help you to understand what you are reading. It can be tricky to find the answers to you wonderings and questions in the text. Sometime you may have to look wider.Your next step is to always make sure you understand what you read. Ask questions as you are reading to check you know what is going on.Kerri

Sharing our Stories

We have been creating a variety of art pieces this term. These pieces are all about ourselves and sharing our stories. We plan our week choosing activities that are going to help us reach our goals. We plan all the must do’s and then add the can do’s.

Reflection

I think
My Buddy thinks
I know what I am learning
i am learning to asking questions
I think James listens
I know what I need to do to get better
I need to get better at maths
I think James finds ways of doing things
I plan activities that are going to help my learning
because my brain just stops
I think James is always on task
I follow my plan

I sometimes follow my plan
I think James is a little good at his plan
I use my learning time wisely
sometimes
sometimes
James, you have been working hard on your planning, making sure you plan the must dos first and then add the can dos. I can see you have done a lot of thinking and practising to grow as a learner. Your next step is to make sure you follow your plan so you can complete your learning activities and use your learning time wisely. It might be a good idea to have a think about where you choose to sit…are you getting distracted?
